China's Textile Industry Embraces Innovation and Brand Growth
In recent years, China’s textile and apparel industry has focused on deepening its transformation and upgrading, with continuous technological advancements, a richer array of innovative applications, and popular consumption trends such as new Chinese styles. From January to August, the industrial value added of textile enterprises above a designated size increased by 4.5% year-on-year; revenue reached 3,128.46 billion yuan, up by 4.5%; and total profits amounted to 100.62 billion yuan, a 14.4% increase year-on-year.
Various localities and departments have actively supported the digital transformation of textile and apparel enterprises, rapidly enhancing the industry’s digitalization. In sub-sectors such as cotton spinning, chemical fiber, knitting, dyeing, and apparel, significant breakthroughs have been achieved in intelligent development, with a number of textile intelligent manufacturing pilot demonstration enterprises and industrial clusters cultivated.
From January to September, the retail sales of apparel, shoes, hats, and knitted textiles among large-scale units nationwide increased by 0.2% year-on-year. New e-commerce models, such as livestream selling and instant retail, have driven steady online consumption of textile and apparel products, with the national online retail sales of clothing products growing by 4.1% year-on-year.
In the 2024 China Brand Value 500 list, released by an international brand value evaluation consultancy, 15 are apparel brands. China’s textile and apparel industry has entered a period of opportunity for brand building. Specialized, innovative enterprises in the textile and apparel sector, along with design talent, are rapidly emerging, and new brands and niche categories are continually appearing. The rise of cross-border e-commerce and the platform economy is accelerating, positioning the industry well to foster more world-class brands.
